| DBS packages can be reproduced on most sheetfed
printing presses. Because it is a patented product, any party interested in printing the
product must do so with the consent of DBS-America. To become an approved printer of the
DBS package, a DBS Production Kit must be used and the specifications must be closely adhered to. A DBS kit can be ordered
through the registration page on this web site. Listed below are some general
specifications.
Design: One of the
greatest features of the DBS is the design flexibility that is available to the user. A gallery of samples is included in this web site to provide a taste
of the possibilities. One must keep in mind the mechanics of the DBS when designing the
graphics. Because DBS is a patented product, no modifications can be made with respect to
size, shape or functionality. However, there are so many options to consider. There is no
limit to how much of the product is printed. Special effects such as UV coating,
lamination, foil stamping, embossing and specialty inks may also be considered. Templates
to be used for layout are available from DBS-America.
Paper: Solid bleached
sulphite (SBS) coated board is the only approvedsubstrate currently for this product.
Stock thicknesses can range between .015 - .018. Coated one side (C1S) and coated two
sides (C2S) is acceptable. Other substrates may be used with the approval of DBS-America.
Custom stock choices may require testing to verify acceptability. Die-cut blanks
must be provided grain long.
Ink: There is no
restriction on inks used in the printing of DBS. However, it is imperative that a varnish
or some type of coating is applied to the printed surface to prevent scuffing and marking
during the assembly process. The DBS Pac Master has many mechanical components that come
into contact with the printed blanks and could cause scuffing or marking. Keep in mind
that wax free inks should be used whenever foil stamping, embossing or the application of
a UV coating. Ink should no be used in the glued areas of the package. DBS-America can
provide a template which will indicate where those non-printed areas should be.
